Zoe Winters is a Vancouver-based artist working in painting and ceramics whose practice centers on quiet, grounding presences drawn from the natural world. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Winters grew up surrounded by mountains, forests, and shifting light, alongside early immersion in video games and animated imagery. These experiences shaped a sensitivity to atmosphere and imagined spaces that offer refuge from uncertainty.
Winters holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Washington, with a minor in Japanese language and culture. Influenced by Shinto thought, particularly the belief that spirits inhabit nature, she approaches landscape as a living presence rather than a setting. Subtle shifts in color, light, and texture are used to evoke emotional states that encourage calm and inward reflection.
Across softly layered oil paintings and tactile ceramic forms, Winters creates gentle companion figures that emerge from landscape and material itself. While studying game design, she also learned animation, allowing her to bring these characters to life within 3D environments that can be presented in immersive settings.
These beings function as kind, steady guides, offering a sense of reassurance and presence within a chaotic and uncertain world. Through a restrained, patient approach to material and form, her work invites viewers into contemplative spaces of softness, care, and quiet attention.
